Have you been participating in the #yarnlovechallenge this April?  I missed out on this back in February so I have been enjoying it in April (which happens to be one of my fav months)

Each day there is a prompt that you can use share an inspired photo.  I thought I would share my first week for the challenge here.

A shop update is coming tomorrow- all three calendars will be listed including the new optional days of the week blocks!

I don't often travel to one of the big tourist areas of our state but as my eldest was on an adventure in the mountains with a good friend during spring break, we loaded up our scamp Coleen and took the youngest down to the southern end of the state.  Our adventure started out at the Titanic museum- it still gets me every April.  I am pretty convinced that me, my mama, and the youngest are reincarnated  since we are all born in April- but that is another story.  We spent about two hours in the museum and then found a great little state park to camp in for the evening.

The next day the blue skies opened up and we headed to Silver Dollar City.  My husband and I have not been since we were kids.  I really liked it compared to Six Flags which still has a high roller coaster ranking for me.  What won me over at Silver Dollar City was the very laid back feeling of the park and the whole aesthetic of the park.  Being makers and loving the DIY side of life we really liked all the blacksmith, glass blowing, leatherwork, weaving, candy making etc . . . happening.  I dub it the "maker amusement park"

Whoever curates the park buildings and accessories did a stellar job and they have done a great job of bringing in some great roller coasters also- they did not disappoint.  Combine all of that with a smoked turkey leg for the youngest and he had a ball.  I apologize for such a photo heavy post but I just could not help it!

I know you might be thinking why on earth would you knit a cosy for a Cadbury Egg- well I guess I would say why not?  You know you have little scraps of yarn needing to be used and this is the perfect little project to make them into a cute little disguise for your Cadbury Eggs this spring!  Of course now my fellas know when they see these little eggs a sweet treat is inside!

Always good knitting in the round practice and it can be done in about an hour, just right to sneak in between larger knitting projects this spring.  You can find the pattern here- let me know if you find any mistakes.

I have to confess that I bought this yarn before I was a knitter and did not keep the label- ughh. I do remember that is a Malabrigo yarn and 90% sure it is the Rastita in Arco Iris colorway.

If you don't feel like knitting one up and want to wrap up a Cadbury Egg in some wooly goodness I am giving one away that will come to you with a vintage Easter postcard- I will let you add the Cadbury!  Just leave a comment here!  I will draw a winner on April 1- no foolin!

I finished up the March Knit and Resist pussyhat project hat.  This month in honor of National Women's History month the auction proceeds will go toward NOW- National Organization for Women.

First the yarn- it by far is the "hottest" pink I have used in a hat!  I chose a hand dyed 100% merino wool called Maxima from the company Manos Del Uruguay.  They are a fair trade non-profit organization which assembles women in cooperatives throughout the countryside of Uruguay with the aim of bringing economic and social opportunities to rural women.

I really like the mission of this company and this yarn is so super soft and cuddly- all I can think of to call it is pure "squish"  The label let me know that this was knit by Camilo and from Fraile Muerto region of Uruguay.

Next for where this hat traveled this month.  I started this hat at our local community film festival True/False that has gotten an international reputation as one of the largest documentary film festivals.  It is a progressive festival that incorporates art, music, food and film.  Each year I walk away empowered in my volunteer work and the films that I get to watch.

My home lovingly welcomed in a new member- Noodle the Cat and she has taken an interested in my knitting and yarn and learning that it is not a toy!  She was dumped in the countryside and showed up at my folks place and we adopted her.  She is a great addition to our family and fittingly a part of the "pussyhat project"

I finished the hat at my son's soccer games this last weekend.  One of things about becoming a soccer mom is that it accommodates my knitting so well.  I love how the pink shirts of the boys uniforms match the hat and open the boundary of gender role assigning to colors.  Well played coaches!

So there you have it!  All proceeds on this hat after the cost of the yarn and shipping will go to NOW.  The yarn was around $22 and the shipping for this hat is $6 so all proceeds after this will go to the organization.  There is no price incorporated for the actual knitting and I am including a complimentary wood pussyhat key fob.

Thank you again for all your support for this project!  Next month will be O-Wool for the yarn and the donation to the Natural Resources Defense Council.  I will be incorporating some cotton for the summer months!

I picked out a vintage Florida postcard since he has seemed keen on taking several vacations there many times already in his first couple months in office on our taxpayer money so I thought that was fitting with a message of "greetings from the resistance".

I also altered an awesome old vintage postcard I had of these ladies- I have no idea who they are but they begged to have some Pussyhat Project hats added and a simple message.

I also included some that were in my stash that just speak to me as a mother and included messages of listening and thinking about the future for all children.

And last I could not resist these awesome postcards that we got from the recent T/F film fest speaking about the power of trees.  P.S.- science is real.

And just like that our annual documentary film fest has wrapped up and we have to wait another year for it to circle back around.  Though the cool thing about living in a community that hosts one of the biggest and best documentary film fests around is that you can be a part of the festival in some unique ways.  My husband is on the behind scenes build team and often starts volunteering his time starting in Dec/Jan.  He is one of the famed puppeteers for the parade as well.  I have volunteered in a few different ways but my favorite has been as a dubbed "fiber maven" participating on a larger art team lead with folks with some awesome visions of fiber art installations for the fest.
